Q. If I’m transporting dangerous goods, am I allowed on any road that is a recognized truck route?
A. No. Many municipalities set out specific streets and roads over which you can or cannot transport dangerous goods. These Dangerous Goods Routes have been set up to make sure that shipments of dangerous goods can get safely through populated areas. If you violate these by-laws, the municipality involved may fine you.
Dangerous goods routes should not be confused with “Truck Routes”, as they are not necessarily the same. Not all Truck Routes are acceptable for dangerous goods.
Dangerous goods routes are not listed in the TDG regulations. You will have to contact the municipality for more information, and possibly maps.
