Q. How do we know if our employees have to attend WHMIS training?

A. Employers must provide WHMIS training to all workers where hazardous chemicals are used in the workplace. Workers that require instruction are those that work with or near controlled products. Yearly WHMIS refreshers are a pro-active approach to due diligence and a step towards a safer workplace. Employers must provide instruction to workers whenever new chemicals are brought into the workplace. Occupational Health and Safety Act, R.R.O. 1990, REGULATION 860.
