Q. What are your thoughts about operating powered lift equipment on scissor lift loading docks?
A. Scissor lifts docks are the only practical solution for some applications. Employing scissor lifts can be safe if the proper procedures are followed. Here are some recommendations that you may wish to consider.

For example, Power Jacks;

Ensure that the dock is in good working condition and is rated to carry the load. Have the dock inspected.

I recommend employing the use of a pump jack. Take the load out of the truck and place it on the scissor lift, remove the jack. Lower the dock and remove the load with the power jack or another pump jack. My concern is that scissor lifts should have a guard in place that would stop any type of lift equipment from going over the edge or side should there be a malfunction.

Anytime the dock is in it's raised position, the guard should be employed. The guard should be strong enough to prevent movement beyond the edge of the lift. Employees should be properly trained.
