Q. I have been working for my employer for 10 months. We have two 10 ton overhead cranes at out location. Should we be receiving formal training to operate these cranes? I have been shown by the other guys how to use it but I’d feel better if there were a formal course.

A. We offer an extensive training program for overhead crane operation. The overhead crane training course consists of theory, a written test, and a practical evaluation. The Ministry Of Labour requires that all operators receive training and are competent. You can go to the MOL’s website and see that companies have been fined for not providing formal training.
