Q. We are considering doing some minor modifications to our platform on our scissor lift. Do we have to have it checked even if it's done by a certified welder?
A. Section 4.24 of the CSA Standards (B354.2-01) States:
Modifications, alterations, or remanufacture of an aerial platform shall be made only with written permission of the manufacturer.

Where it is not possible to obtain written permission from the manufacture, modifications to an aerial platform shall be made in accordance with the instructions from a professional engineer with expertise in aerial platforms. The modified aerial platform shall be tested in accordance with all stability test requirements of Clause 4.6 and certified by the professional engineer as having passed these stability tests.
