Q. We recently had an accident with our aerial work platform. Other than a minor bend in the guardrail everything seems ok. Are we required to have a structural test performed?

A. Structural inspection is required to verify the structural integrity of critical components of the aerial platform and its stability as originally manufactured in accordance with the Standard in effect at the time of manufacture (CSA 5.3.5.1) (CSA 5.3.5.2). Structural inspection shall be preformed.
10 years after the date of manufacture and every 5 years thereafter.
After any actual, suspected, or potential damage is sustained during an incident that could potentially affect the structural integrity or stability of the aerial platform. Such incidents can include electrical contact, shock loads, fall arrest, collision, or overstressing or stability failure.
After change in ownership, unless a complete service history is provided, including maintenance and inspection records.
If a scissor lift is found to be in need of repair, defective, or in anyway unsafe, the scissor lift must be taken out of service until it has been restored to safe operating condition. Notify your supervisor immediately, the equipment must be from service. Communication with other staff about the removal of the equipment is a must.
