Q. Do you have some safety tips that we can pass on to our employees that use our scissor lift?
|
|
A. 1. Always check job site for unsafe working conditions.
2. Inspect machine before using. Do not use machine if it is malfunctioning in any way.
3. Do not override and hydraulic, mechanical or electrical safety devices.
4. Make sure platform rail holding bolts are secure.
5. Always distribute load evenly over platform area.
6. A level floor is a must! These machines are only safe on a flat, level surface. Use the bubble level indicator at all times prior to raising yourself.
7. Some machines have railings that fold down to allow them to be moved through low doors etc. Never extend machine with the railings in the lower position.
8. Be very aware of high voltage wires in the area where you are working. Electrocution is always a danger along with the possibility of combustibles such as paint, thinners, and adhesives etc, catching fire.
9. Never move a machine in the raised position. Always lower the unit, reposition it, and when you’re sure it is level, carefully raise yourself watching overhead and all around the machine for clearance.
10. Do Not lean over any platform guard railings to perform work.
11. Do Not drive on uneven, sloping or soft terrain, as this is hazardous and must be avoided.
12. Do Not use ladders or scaffolding on the platform to obtain greater height.
13. It is recommended that head gear (hard hats) be worn by all personal in the work platform.
14. Never take chances. Do not use machine if your physical or mental condition is uncertain in any way.
15. When machine is not in use, remove hand control box to prevent unauthorized use.
16. When moving platform, between blind spots & aisle ways, use spotters, or appropriate barriers.
17. Batteries contain electrolytic acid, which may produce flammable gas. Keep flames and sparks away and do not smoke near the batteries.
18. If acid is splashed in your eyes, flush immediately and seek medical attention.
19. Remember that if any of the warning labels or placards are missing or are not legible, you must not try to repair them. It is not permissible to use a pen or marker to make them legible, they must be replaced.
